Use
The Urine Amylase test is used to measure the amount of amylase present in urine. This enzyme helps in the digestion of carbohydrates and is primarily secreted by the pancreas and salivary glands. Elevated levels of urine amylase may indicate pancreatitis, a blockage of the pancreatic duct, or other pancreatic disorders. It is also useful for monitoring patients with suspected or known pancreatic conditions, ensuring effective treatment and management of such conditions.

Limitations
This test may show elevated levels of amylase in conditions not related to pancreatic diseases, such as infections, liver disease, certain cancers, or other medical conditions. Levels can also vary based on diet and medication. Samples with urine pH of 7.0 or less and those collected with acid are deemed unacceptable, as these conditions may affect the integrity and performance of the test.

Collection Instructions
Collect a 24-hour or timed urine sample without preservatives. Ensure the pH is greater than 7.0, and refrigerate during collection. Random urine samples are also acceptable.
Causes for Rejection
Specimens with pH 7.0 or less or those collected with acid are unacceptable.
