Use
ANA are commonly found in a variety of autoimmune diseases. Antibody frequency increases with age in apparently healthy people. ANA patterns on HEp-2 slides provide only general clues about particles (chromatin, nucleosomes, and spliceosomes).
Special Instructions
Separate serum from cells within one hour of collection, and transfer to a plastic transport tube before shipping. Ensure separate frozen specimens are submitted for multiple tests to avoid delays in turnaround time.
Limitations
This test was developed and its performance characteristics determined by LabCorp. It has not been cleared or approved by the FDA, which may affect the generalizability of the results to patients not fitting the specific conditions tested. Test results should always be correlated with clinical findings and patient history. Single measurements may not reflect disease progression or remission accurately and should be interpreted as part of a serial study for trend evaluation in conditions like SLE.
