Special Instructions
Patient should abstain from alcohol for 24 hours prior to collection. For those who are younger than six months, blood should be collected before feeding. It is also recommended to collect blood before breakfast in the morning and prior to any medication administration. Beta Carotene should be handled with care to ensure it is protected from light.
Limitations
These tests were developed and their performance characteristics determined by LabCorp. However, they have not been cleared or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which may impact the regulatory standing of these results. Variations in specimen handling, patient preparation, and atmospheric exposure to light for beta carotene could potentially affect the accuracy of the results.

Vitamin A and Vitamin E samples can be shipped in red-top tube or gel-barrier tubes; Beta Carotene should be shipped in amber plastic transport tube with amber top.
Collection Instructions
If red-top tube is used, transfer separated serum to a plastic transport tube. Beta carotene should be shipped in amber plastic transport tube with amber top.
Patient Preparation
