Use
The immunoblot test is used as an adjunct tool in diagnosing Yersinia enterocolitica infection. It helps detect IgA and IgG antibodies to Y. enterocolitica Yop proteins, which can be useful in diagnosing post-infectious autoimmune disorders associated with Y. enterocolitica, such as reactive arthritis, erythema nodosum, Graves Disease, and Hashimoto thyroiditis.
Special Instructions
This test is New York state approved. Ensure proper specimen collection and handling as per guidelines to avoid rejection.
Limitations
Cross-reactivity has been demonstrated with Borrelia burgdorferi, which can cause an arthritis indistinguishable from that due to Y. enterocolitica. The test was developed and its performance characteristics determined by ARUP Laboratories and is not FDA cleared or approved. It is performed in a CLIA certified laboratory and intended for clinical purposes. Contaminated, heat-inactivated, hemolyzed, icteric, lipemic, or turbid specimens will be rejected.
