Aldosterone Right Adrenal Vein
Also known as: ALDO RAV
Use
This test is used to investigate primary and secondary aldosteronism and to distinguish between bilateral idiopathic hyperaldosteronism (IHA) and aldosterone-producing adenomas (APA). The aldosterone concentration in the right adrenal vein can provide critical data for diagnosing hyperaldosteronism, particularly in differentiating between possible causes of aldosterone overproduction.
Special Instructions
An adrenal venous sampling procedure is required prior to testing to ensure appropriate sample collection. This will help ensure the accuracy and reliability of the aldosterone measurement in the right adrenal vein.
Limitations
Results can be affected by patient preparation, specimen collection, and medications being taken for hypertension control. The test may yield false-positive or false-negative results for the aldosterone-renin ratio (ARR) if these factors are not properly controlled according to Endocrine Society recommendations. It is essential that the cells in the serum are separated as soon as possible or within two hours of collection to minimize deterioration of the sample.
