Allergen, Food, Mango
Also known as: MANGO
Use
This test measures the concentration of mango-specific IgE antibodies in the blood, which helps assess the likelihood of an allergic reaction to mango. The results can support the diagnosis of mango allergy in patients with a clinical history suggestive of an IgE-mediated allergic response to mango. The correlation of laboratory test results with clinical history and in vivo reactivity to specific allergens is essential due to the potential variability in clinical expression of allergic reactions.
Special Instructions
Avoid multiple patient encounters if possible to ensure test accuracy. Refer to the 'Allergen Specimen Collection Instructions' for detailed collection guidance when ordering multiple allergen tests.
Limitations
The test measures mango-specific IgE levels but may not correlate precisely with the degree of clinical symptoms or skin test results when challenged with mango. A result of 0.10-0.34 kU/L is of undetermined clinical relevance and is intended for specialist use. False negatives can occur; a negative test does not necessarily rule out a mango allergy or anaphylaxis. Always consider test results in conjunction with clinical history and other diagnostic tests.
