Allergen, Food, Nutmeg IgE
Also known as: NUTMEG
Use
This test is used to detect the presence of specific IgE antibodies to nutmeg allergen. The level of IgE may indicate the potential for an allergic reaction, but it does not correlate directly with the degree of clinical symptoms. Results in the range of 0.10-0.34 kU/L are for specialist use since clinical relevance is undetermined. The result should be considered along with a patient’s clinical history and any in vivo testing for comprehensive allergy assessment.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided. Separate serum from cells as soon as possible, preferably within 2 hours of collection. Transfer to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube for transport. Refer to 'Allergen Specimen Collection Instructions' for collecting samples for multiple allergens.
Limitations
Allergen results do not always indicate the clinical severity of an allergic reaction. A negative result does not rule out the possibility of a clinical allergy or even anaphylaxis when a specific allergen is presented. Test results need to be interpreted cautiously, especially in conjunction with a patient's history and in vivo testing where applicable.
