Allergen, Inhalants, IHC Western Allergy Panel
Also known as: WEST PRO
Use
This test is intended to measure specific IgE antibodies related to inhalant allergens. The detection and quantification of specific IgE antibodies can aid in the diagnosis of allergic diseases. The correlation of the test results with clinical history and in vivo reactivity to specific allergens is essential for accurate diagnosis and management of allergic conditions. The test may be used to confirm sensitization to various inhalant allergens, such as animal dander, pollen, molds, dust mites, and others.
Special Instructions
Patients should avoid multiple patient encounters and collection should be performed in a Serum Separator Tube (SST). It is essential to separate the serum from cells as soon as possible, preferably within 2 hours of collection, to ensure the stability and reliability of the test results.
Limitations
This test was developed by ARUP Laboratories but has not been cleared or approved by the US FDA. It is performed in a CLIA-certified laboratory and is intended for clinical purposes. While increasing IgE concentrations may be reflective of increasing allergen-specific IgE levels, they do not necessarily correlate with clinical symptoms or skin testing results. A negative test does not exclude clinical allergy or anaphylaxis. Results between 0.10-0.34 kU/L are undetermined in terms of clinical relevance and should be interpreted by specialists.
