Allergen, Occupational, Cotton Seed IgE
Also known as: COTTONSEED
Use
This test measures the level of IgE antibodies specific to cotton seed allergens in the blood. It is used to evaluate patients who are suspected to have a cotton seed allergy, providing insights into potential allergic reactions. The test results need to be interpreted in conjunction with the clinical history of the patient and possibly in vivo testing, as specific IgE concentrations do not always correlate with the severity of allergic symptoms.
Special Instructions
Not provided.
Limitations
The test has been developed by ARUP Laboratories and is performed in a CLIA-certified laboratory, but it has not been cleared or approved by the FDA. Results indicating IgE levels between 0.10 kU/L and 0.34 kU/L show undetermined clinical relevance; thus, such results are recommended for further evaluation by a specialist. High IgE levels do not necessarily predict the severity of an allergic reaction. Negative results do not completely exclude the possibility of a clinical allergy or anaphylaxis.
