Allergen, Tree, California Pepper IgE
Also known as: PEPPERTREE
Use
This test measures the level of specific Immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies in the blood to the allergen California Pepper Tree (Schinus molle). IgE antibodies are associated with allergic reactions. The test helps in diagnosing allergies to California Pepper Tree and assists in determining if the patient has been exposed to this allergen, which can lead to allergic reactions ranging from mild to severe.
Special Instructions
Specimen should be collected in a serum separator tube. After collection, serum must be separated from cells as soon as possible or within 2 hours. Serum is then required to be transferred to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. For multiple allergen orders, refer to the 'Allergen Specimen Collection Instructions' at aruplab.com.
Limitations
Results of allergen tests such as this one should be considered alongside the patient's clinical history and in vivo reactivity tests, as IgE levels do not always correlate with the severity of clinical allergic reactions. The presence of IgE may not predict anaphylaxis, and clinical correlation is necessary. A negative test result does not completely rule out an allergy to the California Pepper Tree.
