Allergen, Weed, Lamb's Quarters
Also known as: LAMBS QTR
Use
This test measures the level of allergen-specific IgE antibodies to Lamb's Quarters (Chenopodium album) in the blood. It helps to assess sensitization and potential allergic response to this particular weed, which is known to trigger allergic reactions in sensitive individuals. The test results provide guidance in the diagnosis and management of allergic conditions, correlating with clinical history and in vivo reactivity to allergens. A higher IgE level generally indicates a higher likelihood of clinical allergy, but clinical correlation is necessary.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided prior to the test to ensure accurate readings. The serum should be collected and processed quickly, with separation from cells occurring within 2 hours of collection.
Limitations
The test provides quantitative measurements of allergen-specific IgE; however, it may not correlate directly with clinical symptoms or the severity of allergies. Lower results between 0.10 - 0.34 kU/L are clinically undetermined and should be interpreted with caution. Allergy testing results should always be considered in conjunction with the patient's clinical history and skin test results. Even if IgE levels are low, clinical allergy cannot be ruled out completely.
