Allergens, Inhalants, Profile 28 IgE
Also known as: INHALE 28
Use
This test measures allergen-specific IgE levels for a panel of inhalant allergens including fungi/molds, trees, weeds, grasses, insects, and animal dander. It is used to assess sensitivity to these allergens and aids in the diagnosis of allergic conditions such as allergic rhinitis, asthma, and conjunctivitis. The correlation of allergy laboratory results with clinical history and in vivo reactivity to specific allergens is essential. A negative test may not rule out clinical allergy or even anaphylaxis.
Special Instructions
Specimen collection should be in a serum separator tube, and multiple patient encounters should be avoided. Specimen preparation includes separating serum from cells as soon as possible or within two hours of collection, with transfer to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube for transport. Adequate volume is required for allergen testing.
Limitations
Allergen results of 0.10-0.34 kU/L are intended for specialist use as the clinical relevance is undetermined. These concentrations may not correlate with the degree of clinical response or skin testing results when challenged with a specific allergen. Correlation with clinical history and in vivo reactivity is essential. The test does not rule out clinical allergy or anaphylaxis and may not detect all clinically relevant allergens.
