Use
This test is intended to aid in the evaluation of patients who may have allergic reactions to various weed allergens including Common/Short Ragweed, Dandelion, English Plantain, and others. By detecting allergen-specific IgE, it assists in determining the potential cause of allergic symptoms, although clinical correlations with patient history and in vivo reactivity are crucial. Results are reported in kU/L and provide a measure of allergen-specific IgE concentration, though these may not directly correlate with the severity of clinical symptoms.
Special Instructions
Avoid multiple patient encounters to prevent testing interference. Ensure proper collection and handling of serum separator tubes to maintain specimen integrity.
Limitations
Results need to be correlated with clinical history and in vivo response since allergen-specific IgE concentrations do not always correlate with allergy severity or skin test reactivity. A negative IgE result does not rule out clinical allergy or anaphylaxis. Allergen results in the range of 0.10-0.34 kU/L have undetermined clinical relevance and are recommended for specialist interpretation.
