Use
Beta-2 Microglobulin, Serum or Plasma is used for risk stratification and staging of multiple myeloma, Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia, and other lymphoproliferative disorders. It aids in differentiating glomerular and tubular renal disease.
Special Instructions
The test is approved by New York state. Use it for risk stratification and staging of related disorders.
Limitations
This test should not be performed using cerebrospinal fluid (CSF); it's not designed to distinguish between certain specific conditions, and any interpretations should be made in conjunction with clinical findings and other diagnostic results.

Collection Instructions
Allow specimen to clot completely at room temperature. Separate serum or plasma from cells ASAP or within 2 hours of collection. Transfer to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.
Causes for Rejection
CSF specimens are not acceptable.
