Campylobacter Antigen
Also known as: CAMPY
Use
The Campylobacter Antigen test is designed to detect Campylobacter-specific antigens in human fecal specimens, including C. jejuni, C. coli, and C. upsaliensis. This test is typically used to assist in the diagnosis of infections caused by Campylobacter species, which are common bacterial causes of gastroenteritis. Detection of the antigen in fecal samples indicates the presence of the bacteria, providing a rapid diagnosis that can guide treatment decisions.
Special Instructions
The test is New York state approved. Specimens must be transported in the recommended containers to ensure viability and accurate results. ARUP provides necessary transport vials available through ARUP Connect or Client Services.
Limitations
The test has some limitations regarding specimen conditions. Specimens that are outside the acceptable conditions such as inappropriate transport media or stability periods may lead to inaccurate results. It is important to ensure specimens are refrigerated promptly and transferred to specified transport media within the recommended time frame.
