CD4 by Immunohistochemistry
Also known as: CD4 IHC
Use
CD4 by Immunohistochemistry is used to evaluate the presence and pattern of CD4 protein expression on tissues or cells. CD4 is a glycoprotein found predominantly on the surface of immune cells such as T-helper cells, monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. This test aids in the characterization of various lymphoproliferative disorders and other pathological conditions characterized by abnormal immune cell populations. It is particularly useful in the diagnosis and monitoring of diseases such as lymphomas, where CD4 expression helps differentiate between different subtypes of T-cell lymphomas.
Special Instructions
For immunohistochemistry ordering and submission, an electronic request should be submitted. If electronic ordering is not available, an ARUP Immunohistochemistry Stain Form (#32978) with an ARUP client number should be used. For additional technical details, contact ARUP Client Services.
Limitations
This test is performed as a stain and return (technical) service only. Interpretive analysis is not included in this service, and pathologists should be aware that results should be interpreted within the context of histological and clinical findings. Inappropriate specimen type or quality, non-representative tissue type, or depleted specimens will be considered unacceptable for analysis.
