Chikungunya Antibody, IgG
Also known as: CHIKG
Use
This test aids in detecting past chikungunya viral infection. It is important for diagnosing chikungunya infection in patients who exhibit symptoms aligning with this disease and have a relevant travel history to areas where the virus is endemic. Due to similarities in symptoms, it is advisable to also consider testing for other arthropod-borne viruses based on the clinical presentation.
Special Instructions
For optimal results, separate serum from cells as soon as possible or within 2 hours of collection. Transfer 1 mL serum to an ARUP standard transport tube, with a minimum required volume of 0.15 mL. Parallel testing is recommended, and any specimens should be clearly marked as 'acute' or 'convalescent.' Convalescent specimens must be received within 30 days of the acute specimen.
Limitations
This test was developed and its performance characteristics determined by ARUP Laboratories. It has not been cleared or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration but is performed in a CLIA certified laboratory and is intended for clinical purposes. False positives or negatives can occur: antibody presence can suggest either current or past infection. Equivocal results could necessitate repeat testing in 10-14 days.
