Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae by Transcription-Mediated Amplification (TMA)
Also known as: CGAMD
Use
This test is the preferred method for detecting Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae in a variety of specimens. It uses Transcription-Mediated Amplification (TMA) technology for the qualitative detection of these pathogens. It is suitable for medical purposes but not valid for evaluating suspected sexual abuse or for forensic purposes. In some contexts, such as meeting applicable laws and regulations, culture may be required for diagnosis of C. trachomatis and N. gonorrhoeae infections. This test does not include confirmation of positive results by an alternative nucleic acid target, which should be considered depending on clinical context.
Special Instructions
Specimens must be collected using the Aptima MultiTest Swab Specimen Collection kit or the Aptima Unisex Swab Specimen Collection kit. Alternatively, first-catch urine specimens can be used and transferred to an Aptima Urine Specimen Transport Tube. Proper collection and transport instructions must be followed as specified by ARUP.
Limitations
The test is not suitable for forensic purposes, and positive results are not confirmed by an alternative nucleic acid target in this process. Depending on the context, such as legal requirements for diagnosis, a culture test may be required. The test aims to detect, but not confirm, Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae infections.
