Cholesterol, Fluid
Also known as: CHOL FL
Use
The Cholesterol, Fluid test is a diagnostic tool used to measure the cholesterol level in body fluids such as pericardial, peritoneal/ascites, or pleural fluid. This test aids in assessing metabolic disorders, liver function, and other conditions related to fluid accumulation in body cavities. It helps in diagnosing diseases that cause abnormalities in cholesterol levels and provides valuable information regarding the patient's fluid status and metabolic health.
Special Instructions
Specimen source must be provided. The test is performed across all days of the week, and it requires the specimen to be refrigerated during storage and transport. Care should be taken to follow proper specimen collection and preparation procedures as advised by the laboratory.
Limitations
This test is not cleared or approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) but is developed and validated by ARUP Laboratories as a Laboratory Developed Test (LDT). It should be used exclusively in clinical settings under the guidance of healthcare professionals. Samples other than pericardial, peritoneal/ascites, or pleural fluid are not acceptable, and viscous specimens that cannot be aspirated by instruments are also rejected.
