Cocaine, Urine Screen with Reflex to Quantitation
Also known as: COCA RFX U
Use
This test is used for general screening in contexts of compliance and/or abuse, specifically to detect cocaine exposure. The initial screen is performed using an enzyme immunoassay, and if the result is presumptive positive, it reflexes to a more specific and confirmatory test using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. It helps in ruling out cocaine exposure by identifying the presence of cocaine or its metabolites in urine samples.
Special Instructions
Screening with reflex testing is preferred for conclusive results. For follow-up on presumptive results, the recommended test is Cocaine Metabolite, Urine, Quantitative (0090359). The reflex confirmation step incurs additional charges. Test is available for use in New York State.
Limitations
The screening test detects drugs or metabolites only at concentrations above certain cutoff levels, which may vary by drug class. Results are intended for medical purposes only and are not valid for forensic use. Presumptive negative outcomes can occur due to factors like non-compliance, improper specimen collection timing, poor drug absorption, or diluted/adulterated samples.
