Comprehensive Nerve Biopsy Workup
Use
The Comprehensive Nerve Biopsy Workup assists in the assessment of neuromuscular disorders through a detailed examination of nerve specimens. It aids in diagnosing conditions such as mitochondrial abnormalities, axonal degeneration, and issues related to neuromuscular dysfunction, providing crucial information for treatment planning.
Special Instructions
Detailed collection instructions are available in the Muscle/Nerve Biopsy Collection Kit (#40923) or can be requested by contacting ARUP Client Services. Use of a different collection kit could result in sub-optimal biopsy preparation or fixation and delays in diagnosis. All vials must be labeled with the patient's full name and unique identifier.
Limitations
The quality of the biopsy and the adherence to the provided collection instructions are critical for accurate diagnosis. Specimens not collected according to the instructions are subject to rejection, and sub-optimal conditions may lead to inaccurate or inconclusive results.
