Cytology, Non-Gynecologic
Also known as: NG REQUEST
Use
The Cytology, Non-Gynecologic test is used for the examination of cells in non-gynecologic specimens to diagnose cancer, precancerous conditions, or infections. This test is applicable for evaluating a variety of body fluids, brushings, or washings except for specimens obtained via fine needle aspiration (FNA). It provides detailed cellular analysis to assist in the diagnosis and management of malignancies, hemorrhagic disorders, and infections from various body sites.
Special Instructions
Use this test for samples collected as non-gynecologic body fluids, brushings, or washings. Ensure adequate sample preservation by using CytoLyt or PreservCyt as a fixative for fluids; if unfixed, refrigerate immediately. Submit source information with all specimens. Cytology Test Request Form 32965 must be submitted along with the order.
Limitations
This test is not suitable for evaluating specimens obtained by fine needle aspiration. The quality of the diagnostic information may be affected by the adequacy of the specimen, including volume, preservation, and transportation conditions. Frozen specimens or those in expired fixative are unacceptable and may lead to rejection.
