DNA Extract and Hold
Also known as: GENOME EXT
Use
The DNA Extract and Hold test is used to prepare and preserve DNA samples from whole blood or bone marrow for potential add-on genetic testing at ARUP Laboratories. This could include germline massively parallel sequencing (MPS), somatic MPS, or testing for somatic hotspot variants in genes. It serves as a preparatory step, ensuring DNA is available and in a usable state for future genetic analyses, specific to patient's clinical needs. As a laboratory-developed test (LDT), it adheres to CLIA guidelines for clinical applicability.
Special Instructions
DNA samples will be held for up to 12 months for potential add-on testing and are not returned to clients or sent to other laboratories. The test is not approved for use in New York, indicating restrictions in certain geographic locations.
Limitations
This test is not FDA-cleared or approved, reflecting its status as a laboratory-developed test. It is exclusively used for preparing DNA for potential internal ARUP testing and cannot be sent to or used by third-party laboratories. DNA extracted cannot be used for tests requiring fresh or unmodified samples, potentially limiting its use to tests compatible with preserved DNA.
