Endomysial Antibody, IgA by IFA
Also known as: EMAR TITER
Use
The Endomysial Antibody, IgA by IFA is used to evaluate for suspected celiac disease (CD) in individuals with positive results for tissue transglutaminase (tTG) IgA. It is not recommended as an initial test for suspected CD. The test targets the endomysial antigen, identified as the protein cross-linking enzyme, tissue transglutaminase, which is associated with gluten-sensitive enteropathy.
Special Instructions
Ensure that serum is separated from cells ASAP or within 2 hours of collection and transferred to an ARUP standard transport tube with a minimum volume of 0.15 mL. The specimen must be stored refrigerated, avoiding plasma, severely lipemic, contaminated, or hemolyzed conditions.
Limitations
The test is not suitable for initial screening of celiac disease and should only be used in the context of a positive tTG IgA result. Severe hemolysis, lipemia, and contamination may lead to test rejection. The test requires proper handling to maintain the stability of the serum sample over time.
