Special Instructions
Reflex testing for tissue transglutaminase (tTG) IgG antibodies is performed if total IgA is decreased. It is important to avoid gluten in the diet prior to testing, as strict adherence may reduce antibody levels and affect test results.
Limitations
While the test is highly specific for celiac disease, a negative result does not completely rule out the disease. Antibody levels might be lower or undetectable if the patient is on a gluten-free diet at the time of testing. Other conditions, such as autoimmune diseases, may also contribute to the presence of these antibodies.
