Use
This test aids in the identification of patients with essential fatty acid deficiency, evaluation of nutritional status, and monitoring of diet. It is useful in assessing the levels of essential fatty acids in red blood cells, which are important for maintaining cell membrane integrity and function.
Special Instructions
Patient age is required on the test request form along with information regarding treatment, family history, and tentative diagnosis. Do not freeze the specimen before transport.
Limitations
The test does not screen for disorders of peroxisomal biogenesis or function. It is specifically designed to assess the profile of essential fatty acids in red blood cells and may not provide comprehensive analysis for all fatty acid-related disorders.
