Hepatitis Be Virus Antigen and Antibody Panel
Also known as: HBE PAN
Use
The Hepatitis Be Virus Antigen and Antibody Panel is used to monitor confirmed chronic hepatitis B infection. It assesses the presence of Hepatitis Be antigen (HBeAg) and Hepatitis Be antibody (anti-HBe) to provide information on the infectivity and ongoing viral replication associated with Hepatitis B virus. The panel helps in evaluating the response to antiviral treatment and can indicate changes in HBV replication activity.
Special Instructions
Order this assay only when a specimen is repeatedly reactive for hepatitis B surface antigen. Ensure serum or plasma is separated from cells as soon as possible or within two hours of collection to maintain integrity.
Limitations
This assay should not be used for blood donor screening, associated reentry protocols, or for screening human cells, tissues, and cellular- and tissue-based products (HCT/P). The detection of HBeAg and anti-HBe alone should not be used to diagnose an HBV infection definitively, and it is essential to correlate the results with other clinical and laboratory findings.
