Lp-PLA2, Lipoprotein-Associated Phospholipase A2, Activity (PLAC)
Also known as: PLAC A
Use
Lp-PLA2 activity is used to evaluate atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. It should be used in conjunction with clinical evaluation and patient risk assessment, providing additional information as an indicator of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. However, Lp-PLA2 activity does not replace traditional lipid testing or other conventional risk factors for cardiovascular disease.
Special Instructions
Ensure complete clot formation has taken place prior to centrifugation. Transfer 1 mL serum to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. Minimum volume required is 0.2 mL. Samples that are visibly hemolyzed should be redrawn.
Limitations
This test should not be used as a standalone marker for cardiovascular risk assessment. The Lp-PLA2 activity assay needs to be interpreted together with clinical findings and other established risk indicators of cardiovascular disease.
