Lymphocyte Subset Panel 5 - Total Lymphocyte Enumeration
Also known as: TIMMUNPAN
Use
The Lymphocyte Subset Panel 5 test plays a crucial role in evaluating individuals for primary immunodeficiencies, including severe combined immunodeficiency. It is also instrumental in monitoring immune reconstitution following transplantation. The test provides essential data by enumerating the percent and absolute cell counts of lymphocyte subsets, including CD4 helper T-cells, CD8 cytotoxic T-cells, B-cells expressing CD19, and natural killer cells. It is important for managing HIV-related conditions, with CD4 T-cell levels being used to inform decisions around prophylaxis and antiviral therapy initiation.
Special Instructions
For accurate results, specimens must be analyzed within the specified stability times. Patient preparation should consider potential medication effects on immunophenotyping results, which should be detailed on the test request form. It is advisable to collect specimens at the same time of day for serial monitoring studies to minimize variability.
Limitations
This test has been developed and its performance validated by ARUP Laboratories. It has not been cleared or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration and is offered from a CLIA-certified laboratory for clinical purposes. As with any test, understanding the limitations such as potential impacts of medication, sample handling, and stability constraints is critical for interpretation. It is also recommended to perform the test consistently within specified timeframes for comparison in longitudinal studies.
