Ma2/Ta Antibody, IgG by Immunoblot, CSF
Also known as: MA2/TA CSF
Use
The test aids in the diagnosis of autoimmune cerebellar ataxia and encephalitis. The presence of Ma2/Ta antibodies can be associated with cerebellar ataxia, encephalitis, dementia, and brainstem encephalitis, primarily linked to testicular cancer and adenocarcinoma.
Special Instructions
It is recommended to consider sending testing in serum as well as CSF to improve diagnostic yield. Results (positive or negative) should be interpreted considering the complete clinical picture of the patient.
Limitations
False positives may occur and a negative result does not exclude the diagnosis of paraneoplastic neurologic disease. The test is not cleared or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and is intended for clinical purposes within a CLIA-certified laboratory.
