Mumps Virus Antibody IgG, CSF
Also known as: MUMPSCSF
Use
The Mumps Virus Antibody IgG, CSF test is used to detect the presence of IgG antibodies to the mumps virus in cerebrospinal fluid. The detection of these antibodies may indicate a central nervous system infection. However, results must be interpreted with caution as contamination by blood or transfer of serum antibodies across the blood-brain barrier can occur. Positive results may indicate a current or past mumps virus infection.
Special Instructions
This test is not approved by New York State. Specimens from New York clients will be sent out to a New York state-approved laboratory. The test is performed at ARUP Laboratories, a CLIA certified facility, designed for clinical purposes.
Limitations
The test has not been cleared or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. Detection of IgG antibodies in the CSF may be affected by contamination with blood or transfer of serum antibodies, which could result in a misleading interpretation.
