Prostate-Specific Kallikrein, 4Kscore
Also known as: 4KSCORE
Use
The Prostate-Specific Kallikrein, 4Kscore test is used to stratify the risk of aggressive prostate cancer in men aged 45 or older with elevated prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels, for whom biopsy is under consideration. This test helps in decision-making by estimating the probability of aggressive prostate cancer, thus aiding in the management of prostate health.
Special Instructions
It is important that the test is not ordered if the patient has been diagnosed previously with prostate cancer, or undergone a digital rectal exam in the last four days, or received treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia in the past six months. Additionally, any urologic procedures affecting secondary PSA evaluation or the use of 5-alpha reductase inhibitors within six months should also be accounted for before performing the test.
Limitations
The test has limitations in scenarios where recent prostate procedures or pharmacological interventions could influence PSA levels, potentially leading to inaccurate risk assessments. The test isn't suitable for individuals with a history of prostate cancer as the prior diagnosis would invalidate the stratification outcome expected by this test.
