Rapid Plasma Reagin (RPR) with Reflex to RPR Titer or T. pallidum Antibody by Particle Agglutination
Also known as: RPR REV
Use
This test is used to confirm reactive treponemal screening tests when using the reverse testing algorithm for syphilis screening. It helps in diagnosing syphilis by detecting non-specific antibodies that may be indicative of an active infection.
Special Instructions
Order this test as a follow-up to confirm a reactive treponemal screening test. Avoid freezing the serum specimens if possible. Additional charges apply for reflex testing to either RPR titer or TP-PA as required based on results.
Limitations
The test is limited by the potential for biological false positives, especially in conditions such as pregnancy or autoimmune diseases. Results should be interpreted in conjunction with clinical findings and other diagnostic evidence.
