Use
Giemsa is a histochemical special stain used to demonstrate organisms such as Helicobacter pylori (dark blue) in tissue specimens, supporting diagnostic evaluation of infections in histopathology samples.
Special Instructions
Performed as a stain-and-return (technical service) only. Order via electronic request or with ARUP Anatomic Pathology Test Request Form (#32960). Submit tissue block or at least one positively charged slide (3–5 µm), using ARUP tissue transport kit (#47808) if needed. Protect slides/blocks from heat and ship in cooled container during summer.
Limitations
Specimens must be representative tissue or cells prepared properly; depleted specimens or nonrepresentative tissue will be rejected. Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded blocks or cellblocks are required. Slides must be unstained and correctly prepared. Frozen specimens are unacceptable.
