SS18 (SYT) (18q11) Gene Rearrangement by FISH
Also known as: SYT_FISH
Use
The SS18 (SYT) (18q11) Gene Rearrangement by FISH test aids in the molecular diagnosis of synovial sarcoma. This test identifies rearrangements involving the SS18 (SYT) gene, which are useful for diagnosing synovial sarcoma. The test detects 100 percent of SS18 rearrangements in tumors with SS18 rearranged, except for rare instances of cryptic rearrangements.
Special Instructions
Include surgical pathology report with specimen submissions. If multiple specimens are sent, they must be accompanied by an order comment for pathologist selection or individual orders for each sample. A Pathologist Block Selection Fee applies if no individual orders are provided and selection is required.
Limitations
This test is designed to detect rearrangements involving the SS18 (SYT) gene but does not identify the specific partner gene. An abnormal signal pattern seen in 25 percent or more of tumor cells is considered positive. Cryptic rearrangements might not be detected by this assay.
