Toll-Like Receptor Function
Also known as: TLR
Use
This test aids in the diagnosis of innate immunodeficiencies when genetic defects of the innate immune system are suspected. It is particularly useful for individuals who are negative for other immunodeficiencies such as abnormalities in antibody function, complement activity, neutrophil function, or cell-mediated immunity. However, it does not measure the function of toll-like receptor 3 (TLR3).
Special Instructions
Not provided.
Limitations
The test does not measure TLR3 function directly. Molecular testing is preferred for detecting defects in TLR3. The function of toll-like receptors is compromised in cases with defects in IRAK-4 and MyD88, except for endosomal TLR4, which operates independently of these pathways. Abnormal patient results without a client submitted control sample should be clinically correlated and interpreted cautiously.
