Oncology Chromosome Analysis - Solid Tumor
Use
Oncology Chromosome Analysis – Solid Tumor is used to identify chromosomal changes such as translocations, large duplications, deletions, and inversions within solid tumor samples. Results must always be interpreted within the context of relevant clinical data and should not be used alone for diagnosis. This analysis can be beneficial for patients with cancers involving solid tumors and assists in prognostic identification of abnormalities, especially after unsuccessful cytogenetic testing. The test also plays a crucial role in tracking treatment responses for solid tumors, providing valuable insights throughout the treatment course.
Special Instructions
Specimens must be transported in a sterile, screw-top container with appropriate culture transport medium. It's crucial that specimens are not preserved in formalin, as this could render them unacceptable for analysis. The test must be accompanied by appropriate paperwork, including all clinical indications, to ensure accurate results.
Limitations
The resolution of this standard cytogenetic methodology does not routinely detect subtle rearrangements smaller than 5Mb. Standard cytogenetic analysis cannot detect microdeletions or microduplications that might be diagnosed using Fluorescent In Situ Hybridization (FISH). It is essential to acknowledge these limitations when interpreting results, as undetected alterations could influence clinical decisions.
