Invitae BRCA1 and BRCA2 STAT Panel
Use
This test analyzes the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes, which are associated with adult-onset hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndrome (HBOC). Identification of a pathogenic variant may also guide testing and management of at-risk relatives. The faster turnaround time is beneficial for making timely surgical and management decisions due to the high risk of developing another breast cancer among mutation carriers. BRCA1 and BRCA2 have well established medical management guidelines.
Special Instructions
The test requires accelerated turnaround time due to the urgency of clinical decisions often needed for patients with suspected hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndrome.
Limitations
This test is specifically designed for heritable germline mutations and is not appropriate for the detection of somatic mutations in tumor tissue. The analysis has limitations in cases of structural rearrangements, variants embedded in complex sequence architecture, mosaicism, phasing, or mapping ambiguity. Certain regions like the promoter and non-coding regions are not covered unless explicitly stated.
