Barium, Serum or Plasma
Use
Evaluate exposure to barium
Special Instructions
Serum or plasma should be separated from cells within two hours of venipuncture and transferred to a metal-free transport tube. The test requires the use of a royal blue-top (EDTA) metal-free tube to prevent contamination.
Limitations
Testing schedules may vary and additional time may be required for confirmatory or reflex tests. The performance characteristics of this test have been determined by LabCorp, but it has not been cleared or approved by the FDA. Non-metal-free collection tubes can lead to specimen rejection. The test may not detect low levels of barium exposure effectively if specimens are not handled according to guidelines.
