Benzodiazepine Confirmation, Quantitative, Whole Blood
Also known as: Diazepam, Librium®, Valium®
Use
Detect presence of benzodiazepine class drugs
Special Instructions
Specimens should be collected in a lavender-top (EDTA), gray-top (sodium fluoride), or green-top (heparin) tube. Proper collection and handling are critical to ensure accurate results. Specimens can be transported at room temperature if testing occurs within three days. For longer storage, refrigeration or freezing is required to maintain specimen integrity.
Limitations
This test is limited to the detection and quantification of benzodiazepines and their metabolites present in the whole blood. It will not detect benzodiazepines in other body fluids or tissues. Sensitivity and specificity may vary depending on the specific benzodiazepine and its concentration in the sample. Cross-reactivity with non-benzodiazepine substances is limited but can occur in some cases. The test results should be interpreted in the context of the patient's clinical condition and therapy.
