Bilirubin Fraction, Neonatal
Use
Evaluation for liver and biliary disease
Special Instructions
This test is intended for newborn infants only. Care must be taken to follow collection instructions accurately to avoid sample rejection and ensure accurate results.
Limitations
The test may not be suitable for use beyond the neonatal period, as bilirubin levels and their interpretations can differ significantly in older infants, children, and adults. Interferences could occur due to hemolysis or improper sample preparation that does not protect the sample from light exposure, possibly affecting the test results. Additionally, fasting status, although not required, could influence bilirubin levels and should be noted for clarity of interpretation.
