Cedar, Mountain
Also known as: Mountain Cedar
Use
The Cedar, Mountain test is designed to measure the specific immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies to cedar pollen allergens. It aids in the diagnosis of allergic disease by assessing sensitivity to mountain cedar allergens, which are common triggers of allergic reactions such as hay fever or asthma in susceptible individuals. This test helps healthcare providers understand the patient's allergic profile and possibly tailor allergy management plans.
Special Instructions
The test uses the Thermo Fisher ImmunoCAP® technology, which is a widely recognized method for specific IgE antibody detection. Proper sample collection and handling are crucial for accurate results. Ensure specimens are kept at the appropriate temperatures as specified under the storage instructions.
Limitations
This test specifically targets IgE antibodies to mountain cedar and may not capture other allergenic agents or IgE responses to different allergens. False negatives can occur if the patient is not currently exposed to the allergen or if IgE levels have fallen since exposure. Additionally, false positives are possible if the patient is sensitized to similar allergens not linked to actual clinical allergy symptoms. Clinical correlation with patient history and other diagnostic findings is essential.
