Chlamydia psittaci Antibody, IgM
Use
The Chlamydia psittaci Antibody, IgM test is used to assist in the diagnosis of psittacosis, an infection caused by the bacterium Chlamydia psittaci. Psittacosis is common in people who have contact with birds, such as pet bird owners and poultry workers. The detection of IgM antibodies to Chlamydia psittaci indicates recent infection, helping healthcare providers manage and treat the infection appropriately.
Special Instructions
Testing requires proper specimen collection in a red-top or gel-barrier tube. Ensure specimens are refrigerated after collection. This test is not FDA cleared or approved, as such approval is deemed unnecessary by the FDA. Results should be interpreted in conjunction with clinical findings and other laboratory results.
Limitations
This test was developed by ViroMed, with performance characteristics determined by the laboratory itself. As with any diagnostic test, false negatives or positives may occur. Results should be considered in the context of potential cross-reactivity with other Chlamydia species. Not suitable for patients on IgM therapy, where IgM levels may be elevated artificially.
