CNS Demyelinating Disease Evaluation Profile, Serum
Also known as: CNS Demyelinating Panel
Use
This test is beneficial for the initial assessment of inflammatory diseases involving demyelination in the central nervous system (CNS), which includes conditions like neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) and NMOSD-like disorders, as well as acute disseminated encephalomyelitiis (ADEM).
Special Instructions
Turnaround time is defined as the usual number of days from the date of pickup of a specimen for testing to when the result is released to the ordering provider. In some cases, additional time should be allowed for additional confirmatory or additional reflex tests.
Limitations
Results of this profile should be used in conjunction with clinical findings and other laboratory tests. The absence of both AQP4 IgG and MOG IgG antibodies does not exclude the diagnosis of NMOSD, and it is advisable to consider retesting before initiating antibody-targeted therapies.
