Copeptin
Use
Measurement of copeptin levels in plasma
Special Instructions
Samples should be collected in a lavender-top (EDTA) tube, with plasma separated and transferred to a plastic transport tube. Ensure proper handling to maintain stability and reliability of test results. Results are typically turned around in 3-5 days.
Limitations
This test has not been cleared or approved by the FDA. Copeptin levels may be influenced by various conditions such as sepsis, COPD, and cardiovascular diseases, complicating interpretation. Mixed forms of diabetes insipidus and exposure to certain animal antigens can interfere with results. Elevated copeptin alone cannot distinguish SIADH from other hyponatremic disorders. Patients with psychogenic polydipsia may show mimic mild nephrogenic DI symptoms.
