Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA)
Also known as: DHEA, Unconjugated DHEA
Use
Evaluate adrenal carcinomas that frequently secrete large amounts of DHEA
Special Instructions
For optimal results, it is crucial to follow proper specimen collection and handling procedures. If a red-top tube is used for collection, the separated serum must be transferred to a plastic transport tube for testing. Ensure samples are refrigerated due to limited stability at room temperature; if refrigeration is not possible, freeze the samples to ensure sample integrity.
Limitations
This test was developed and its performance characteristics were determined by LabCorp. However, it has not been cleared or approved by the Food and Drug Administration. Therefore, while LabCorp ensures the reliability and accuracy of the test outcomes, clinicians should interpret results in the context of the overall clinical picture and further confirmatory testing might be required for certain clinical decisions.
