Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV), DNA Probe
Also known as: EBV in situ Hybridization
Use
Detect EBV DNA sequences in tissue sections; adjunct to histopathology
Special Instructions
Not provided.
Limitations
Failure to detect the target DNA may result from several factors, including improper sampling, handling, and/or fixative of the specimen, or if the target DNA is below the sensitivity limits of the assay. Therefore, the absence of staining in this test does not necessarily imply the absence of EBV DNA.

Submit paraffin block in crushproof container. Submit fresh tissue in a sterile container in 10% neutral-buffered formalin.
Collection Instructions
Tissue biopsies should be fixed in 10% neutral buffered formalin and embedded in paraffin within 72 hours. Do not submit frozen tissue or substitute other fixatives. For tissues submitted in formalin, provide appropriate gross/microscopic description indicating the number, type, and site of the tissue(s) submitted.
Storage Instructions
Maintain specimen at room temperature.
