Estradiol
Use
This estradiol assay is designed for the investigation of fertility of women of reproductive age and for the support of in vitro fertilization.
Special Instructions
This test may exhibit interference when sample is collected from a person who is consuming a supplement with a high dose of biotin. Patients should stop biotin consumption at least 72 hours prior to collection. Sampling may be affected by high titers of antibodies to streptavidin and ruthenium, requiring caution in such cases.
Limitations
In children, postmenopausal women, and men, E2 levels are significantly lower than in reproductive-age women, warranting LC/MS-MS for greater sensitivity and specificity. Methods like ECLIA may not provide accurate measurements for these groups. Results from different assay techniques are not interchangeable. Interference from monoclonal mouse antibodies and certain drugs like fulvestrant may result in inaccurate results; consider sensitive methods like LC/MS-MS for these cases.
