Ethyl Alcohol, Screen with Confirmation, Urine (Labcorp MedWatch®) (Confirmation Performed at an Additional Charge)
Also known as: Confirmation performed at an additional charge; Alcohol, Urine, Ethyl Alcohol, Urine Pain Management; Prescription Drug Monitoring; Labcorp MedWatch®; Medical Drug Monitoring
Use
A positive urine alcohol is only indicative of recent use and cannot be used to determine impairment.
Special Instructions
This assay is exclusively intended for use in pain management settings and should not be used for workplace testing, as it does not comply with state regulatory workplace testing programs. The sample should be stored at room temperature, refrigerated, or frozen if there are delays in shipping to the laboratory.
Limitations
While this test can confirm the presence of ethyl alcohol, the results should be carefully interpreted. Positive results may stem from alcoholic beverages or possibly from glucose fermentation, which can produce ethyl alcohol in certain conditions. False positives could occur if urine samples remain unrefrigerated, thereby enhancing glucose fermentation.
