Fungus Culture With Reflex to Rapid Identification
Use
Isolate and identify fungi. Blood: establish the diagnosis of fungal infections including fungemia, fungal endocarditis, and disseminated mycosis in patients at risk for fungal infections.
Special Instructions
Not provided.
Limitations
Recovery of saprophytic environmental fungi is common and may not indicate infection. Culture growth may take extended time depending on organism; not all fungi grow in culture. Sample handling or transport issues may affect viability. Rapid identification is only performed when culture yields growth, which may delay final results.
Methodology
Culture-based
